Crane load limiter

Crane load limiter is a device that switches off the mechanism in the lifting direction when the weight of the lifted load exceeds the nominal capacity of the crane. Allows you to enable the mechanism in the direction of lowering and parking the load.

The load limiter can be used in all types of cranes, i.e. mobile cranes, truck cranes, port and sea cranes, railway cranes, construction cranes. The capacity limiter can also be found in construction machinery, i.e. excavators and loaders. In addition, the load limiter is also found in hydraulic cranes.

How does the crane load limiter work? The crane load limiter works by processing input signals, i.e. the signal from the angle sensor, the signal from the length sensor and the signal from pressure transducers. Based on these signals, calculations are made (in accordance with the parameters of the crane) and safety assessment of the movements performed. All data from the crane's work record are saved on an SD card, from which, after an accident, data about the crane's load can be retrieved.

Crane load limiters are designed to avoid accidents and breakdowns caused by overloading of electric cranes, winches, hoists, lifting devices and any other industrial applications where the wire rope tension must be carefully and constantly monitored.

Load limiter during crane operation sends crane operator all information necessary for proper crane operation. The special screen shows: crane utilization rate, currently lifted weight, boom inclination, boom radius, boom extension length. The on-board computer has a built-in weight lifting system, equipped with a system that protects the crane against overload (limiting crane movements). Additional information is also displayed, i.e. ambient temperature, supply voltage, date and time.

How is the crane operator informed about the danger? When the crane's movements are no longer safe, the machine operator receives a warning in the form of a light and sound signal. The corresponding LEDs on the limiter light up when the standards are exceeded. At the moment when the crane operator does not stop working after exceeding the maximum weight, the crane's work is stopped. This prevents damage or overturning of the machine.
