It is difficult to imagine today's lubrication systems without such an important part as the hydraulic float valve. Its main task is to maintain a constant pressure previously set by the user, regardless of the viscosity of the oil and the degree of wear of the bearings of the device. In addition, it protects the entire system against possible damage due to excessive pressure build-up, which can most often occur during cold start-up.

A hydraulic float valve consists of many elements. Each of them must be made of precisely selected elements to fulfill their role even in the most difficult conditions. Very much attention is paid to the spring of the valve, which must be adjusted in such a way that in difficult engine operation the oil pressure in the oil bus is up to 0.4 MPa. In addition, the flow cross-sections in the overflow valve should be large enough that in conditions when we perform a so-called cold start, and the pressure increases drastically, an outflow of oil could occur, preventing further pressure increase and as a result engine deterioration. When the valve is opened, excess oil is directed to the sump in the pump on its suction side.

The hyrdaulic float valve itself can be integrated in both the oil pump and oil bus lines.

Often in engines we will meet with the use of only one hydraulic float valve. Sometimes, however, it happens that manufacturers decide to put two such devices in their constructions. Why? In this case, one of them is mounted on the pump and serves as a valve to keep the entire system safe. The second one is a regulating valve and maintains the pressure previously determined by the user in the entire system. This solution is used in more complex designs requiring the separation of these two processes for security purposes or to improve the operation of the entire device.
